NEW TURNING GRADE

NEW TURNING GRADE 28 April 2010

Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal Corporatio have developed a new CVD-coated carbide grade “ACECOAT AC820P.”

In recent years, demand for tools has been strong. An exceptionally large market exists for tools used in steel turning applications. “ACECOAT AC820P” has a stable and long tool life - more than twice that of conventional tools.

In the field of parts machining for the automobile, heavy electric machinery, iron and steel, and construction machinery industries, demand is growing for high-efficiency and long-life cutting tools to shorten delivery time and reduce machining cost. In addition to these demands, clients require reliable tools that improve their productivity and increase their profits.

Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal has developed a new grade “AC820P” to fulfill these demands. “AC820P” has a stable long service life in high efficiency machining, as well as in general-purpose turning of steels. Features of this product:

(1)

Enhanced wear resistance; improved chipping resistance on edges

The new “ACECOAT AC820P” incorporates Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal’s original chemical vapor deposition (CVD) coating, “SUPER FF COAT.” By obtaining the maximum film thickness, it has at least twice the wear resistance as that of conventional grades. The coating technology for controlling the film thickness of cutting edges has greatly improved edge strength, achieving at least 1.5-times the chipping resistance compared to existing grades and providing longer life and more stable machining.

(2)

High efficiency machining at least 1.5-times faster than ever

Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal has developed a “GE-type chip breaker” that can significantly reduce damage to the rake face, which is the primary cause of damage in high-speed or fast-feed high efficiency machining. The combination of the “AC820P” and the “GE-type chip breaker” enables high efficiency machining that is at least 1.5-times that of conventional grades.
